to reset any check engine light you need a code reader to properly reset the engine computer, pressing the gas pedal 3 times only resets the OIL CHANGE warning NOT the check engine light, if the fuel cap was loose and it set a "GAS CAP" warning and then a check engine light it WILL reset itself AFTER the computer performs 3 good tests
